Calling all children aged 8 – 15! The Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch is holding open auditions on Sunday 4 June at Romford’s Mercury Mall, giving youngsters the chance to star in this year’s Christmas pantomime Beauty and the Beast.
The Queen’s Theatre invites 8 to 15-year-olds to try out for parts in the panto’s Young Company. Auditions will be held in public in the central atrium on the ground floor of The Mercury Mall shopping centre, Mercury Gardens, Romford.
Director Martin Berry says: ‘We had such a wonderful time with Cinderella last year – the biggest selling show in the theatre’s history – and the brilliant young company were a massive part of that. This year, with the magical story of Beauty and the Beast, we plan to be even bigger and even better. Come along, have fun and become part of something truly wonderful. The Young Company are the heart and soul of the pantomime.’
Candidates must be able to sing and dance to a high standard, and preferably have some dance training. They must also have plenty of enthusiasm and commitment! Successful auditionees join the teams of chorus members, who share 60 performances of Beauty and the Beast during its run from 30 November 2017 – 7 January 2018.
Anyone interested must book their places by Saturday 20 May. Parents or guardians should email YoungCompany@queens-theatre.co.uk stating the child’s name, age, date of birth, address and telephone number.
The Queen’s Theatre will be in contact with a time-slot and registration form to bring on the day. Auditionees must: bring a passport-sized recent photograph; wear suitable clothes to move about in; and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Candidates will be auditioned in groups before a judging panel led by Director Martin Berry and will be asked to sing and follow a short dance routine. The song will be Take That’s hit Shine. Below are the YouTube links for the song. Candidates need to learn the first 2 verses, which is roughly the first 2 minutes. The lyrics are on the second video. They should learn it off by heart, although we will provide printed copies on the day as well.
Successful candidates must attend all rehearsals, which will begin in the first week of November and are usually held between 4 – 6pm on weekdays two or three times a week plus Saturday rehearsals.
