Ireland, 1966. Joe Welch, a skipper, sails into Dingle bay with a very unusual catch…what follows is a ridiculous series of events involving Eamon De Valera, Queen Elizabeth and a whole lot of nuns.
An unbelievable true story, Catch of The Day, is a raucous and little-bit-political play with live trad-inspired music, all set in a West of Ireland pub.
Built from interviews with those who remember, this ‘side -splittingly funny’ (The Irish Post *****), ‘truly excellent piece of gig theatre’ (Within Her Words *****) has been teaching international audiences about Anglo -Irish relations in very silly ways since its debut it 2018. Now, following an award nominated run at Edinburgh Fringe (shortlisted for Best Musical, Musical Theatre Review), critically acclaimed sell out shows in London and Oxford, and fresh from its 2019 summer tour of County Kerry, Catch of The Day visits Hornchurch for the first time. One fish can make a big splash.
