THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES
cut to the chase... in a Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch production
By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle | Adapted by Steven Canny and John Nicholson
On his foggy Dartmoor estate, Sir Charles is found dead with a look of terror on his face and gigantic paw prints next to his body. Has the demon hound struck again? Can Holmes and Watson solve the mystery of the supernatural beast before another Baskerville comes to a gruesome end?
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tale has been given a fantastic comedy make-over by John Nicholson and Steven Canny, winner of the Sony Gold Drama Award in both 2009 and 2010 for his BBC radio plays.
This new production of their hit West End comedy thriller is packed with slapstick, quickfire wit and tongue-in-cheek humour – all delivered at breakneck speed!
If you’ve ever laughed at timeless classics like The Goon Show and Monty Python or recent hits such as The League of Gentleman and The Mighty Boosh, then this show is right up your street!

EXCRUCIATINGLY FUNNY, SURREAL SILLINESS, SLAPSTICK GALORE!
- The Public Reviews
It worked for The 39 Steps. It worked, in this very same house, for Travels With My Aunt. And now it’s the turn of Sherlock Holmes – deerstalker, meerschaum, magnifying glass and all – as he solves the mystery of The Hound of the Baskervilles.

HILARIOUS... THEATRICAL MAGIC!

It never ceases to amaze me how many different ways you can change classic stories, though the programme legend 'A barking mad spoof' should have warned me.

“A fantastic evening spent laughing at this wonderful comedy. Good old slapstick humour but with a twist that had us laughing so much we had tears in our eyes”

“There were some excellent parts but I always felt that it was one redreft short of being very good.. I thought they missed quite a few opportunities to be funnier - the text messege idea had much greater potential for example. However the actors worked really hard and I'm glad I went. Well done on bringing it yo us.”

“My wife and I went with friends last Wednesday and we all thought it was the worst offering by the Queen's Theatre since we started going many years ago. The cast, as usual, worked very, very hard but even they could not rescue this offering. It was such a 'turkey' it should have been put on at Christmas.
The size of the audience indicated how bad it was.”

“laugh, my ribs are still aching over a week later and that says a lot from someone who used to hate farces.i chose to go as i'm a regular jump the Q member and thought what the heck. imagine my surprise to find sherlock almost my favourite show of the set. (though nothing can beat forbidden planet). I loved every minute and the timing was impeccable. fast paced, ingenious and a laugh a second. it was a wonder the cast were able to keep a straight face and sometimes they very nearly didnt!
the time went so quickly I am coming back for more and bringing my friends too. and i have already booked my tickets for next seasons jump the Q and that was without even knowing what was on! You cant go wrong with the Queens for a good time.”
