Refugee

the Queen's Refugee Project
It
is the year 2010, and Amy Donelly’s life is turned upside down
because of her ancestry and her family’s political beliefs.
She simply no longer “fits in”
Refugee
explores the need to flee one country in search of sanctuary in another.
Students first see and hear Amy’s story, and then go on to witness
the stories of other refugees who have entered Britain as asylum seekers.
By placing the events within a context that the students can understand,
the plight of the asylum seeker no longer appears alien, and students
are able to empathise with the situation.
Refugee
enhances students’ speaking and listening skills and addresses citizenship
issues. By communicating with both the actor-refugees, and with each other,
students use the information that they have gained to decide whether or
not the asylum seekers should be granted refugee status.
