first
feat is the Queen’s annual youth dance platform
and is produced in partnership with
East London Dance.
The event reflects
and celebrates the diversity of cultures and styles of youth dance in
East London and Essex and offers young dancers a unique performance opportunity,
as well as the chance to view each other’s work. The event includes
the full technical support of the backstage team at the theatre, a warm-up
led by a professional choreographer and this year participants also prepared
and performed a finale dance!
The participants
in this year’s first feat represented 11 different schools and dance
groups from across East London and Essex, and included the Queen’s
own youth dance group Jump Start.
Performers spent the day working with the theatre’s technical team
in order to achieve the desired lighting effects for their performance,
as well as participating in a group warm-up and learning the finale with
Jump Start’s choreographer Emma Mushens.
In the evening the
participants performed in two separate shows (6pm and 8pm) to an audience
of parents, friends, members of the general public and their fellow participants.
Not only did they provide the audience with an entertaining and diverse
evening of dance, but the hard work and dedication of the groups meant
the subsequent quality of the work was superb.
A
big thank you to all the groups involved in first feat ’07
and to their choreographers, teachers and tutors for their hard work.
