srishti
women are from venus
Srishti is a classical, but innovative, Indian dance company
that focuses on South Indian Classical Dance with a contemporary
flavour. Their new work for 2005 presents two contrasting
pieces: Shringara is a solo that seeks to propel the orthodoxy
of the Bharatanatyam experiences and its contained spiritual
tone. Shukra challenges and confronts gender expectations
in Bharatanatyam through a piece that personifies the planet
Venus. Srishti will be accompanied by live music.

a mixture of work celebrating Oguike’s
exhilarating choreography
Shot Flow, a new duet, resonates with the primal rhythms of
traditional Japanese Taiko drums. White Space is a bright
and rhythmical piece where music, movement and visuals interplay.
Sacred music and sublime movement unite in Seen of Angels,
an elegant piece set to excerpts from Handel’s Messiah.
“I
can’t think of a choreographer who has shown such completeness
of musical instincts, physical inventiveness, intellectual
scale, emotional daring and capacity to entertain”
