Act 1 (photograph 1)

This takes place in the lobby of a hotel with the reception area on one side and the lounge on the other. The double doors centre stage lead into the “Mardyke Suite”, a function room. I took my inspiration from the run down “Crossroads” style motels that we have all stayed in at one time or another. The play made me think of 70’s light wood panelling and nasty plastic plants in vases rapped around white trelliswork. The set should make you feel that the place desperately needs some money spent on it!

Act 2 (photographs 2, 3 and 4)

For Act Two the back wall flys out to expose the function room interior upstage while the lobby area remains as an acting area in front of it. Here I have gone for a small stage with slash silver curtain backing it. This gives it that seedy nightclub / holiday camp feel. The large arched windows above are reminiscent of mid 20th century municipal buildings and add to the dated feel of the whole set.
