Off to Oz!
by Pauline Hannah
The community
play is a major part of the Queen’s programme. For three months
over fifty members of the local community worked alongside the Queen’s
professional artistic and production team, both on stage and behind
the scenes, to bring this brand new show to life.
Written by
New Writing Award winner Pauline Hannah, Off to Oz! tells
the story of Maggie and Barry, a couple who have always shared the
dream of emigrating to Australia, and with a win on the lottery
their dream can become a reality. As a final farewell Maggie and
Barry decide to throw a leaving party – and the whole family
is invited…
The play's run was from
26-29 July and, as Co-Director I was really pleased with the outcome
of the show. The cast really pulled together during production week
and worked hard to do the script justice. The technical rehearsals
were long and tiring, particularly for those who had also been at
work during the day, but it all paid off.
I would like to thank
everybody involved in the show for their hard work and dedication!
It was wonderful to see everything come together and they worked
very well as a team to bring Pauline’s wonderful play to life.
