“Rhys
Darby was simply stunning.” – The Evening Standard
Rhys
Darby has been described as New Zealand’s most physical comedian.
His sensational blend of sound effects, characterisation and askew observation
has been reducing audiences nationwide to a state of bewildered hysteria.
He continues to blur the boundaries between stand-up comedy and theatre
as he ‘becomes’ every character in his dialogue and can include
any amount of song and dance into his performance.
Rhys
gigs regularly at The Classic as well as many other venues around the
city as a pro act, MC and a professional dancer? He’s a regular
feature on televisions’ Pulp Comedy, TV2s’ Big Gala, The Billy
T Awards show and What Now. He is a founding member of the highly successful
BRAT PACK, who have staged three sell-out South Island tours in 1999,
2000 and 2001 and last year performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Also last year Rhys wrote and performed three theatre productions: EARTHLINGS
(with Gary and Lobbs) SPACE ADVENTURE (a world first, comedy theatre performed
inside the Auckland Stardome Planetarium) and his festival show SUPERNOVA.
This
year Rhys performed the final instalment in his dancing idiot trilogy
THE NEON OUTLAW (Auckland only). It was his biggest success yet, selling
out the week at the Civic Underground. Rhys has decided to use the title
of the show for his one hour best of stand-up which he will now travel
the world with…
“Rhys
Darby is amazing” – The NZ Herald
“The
timing is slick and elastic.” – The Press
“A master story-teller adept at physical comedy.”
– The Dominion
