playwright
Dave
was born in Plaistow many years ago.
When he left school
in 1960, he decided to launch himself onto the London stock Exchange.
His launching was quite unspectacular and he trudged around the
city as a messenger for a couple of years, completely unnoticed
until he managed to get himself arrested for causing affray in Throgmorton
Street. He was subsequently found to be innocent but he drew on
this experience when writing his first stage play A Load of
Jack and Danny which was performed at the Queen’s in
1985.
After leaving the
Stock Exchange, he decided to try his hand at deep sea diving but
soon discovered this also had problems as the sea isn’t very
deep around Plaistow, so he surfaced to become a Docker in the Royal
Group of Docks. It was here that he was able to complete his education,
gaining a first class degree in Dockology (which is related to Kidology,
only more dramatic).
