brod mason, lighting designer
(production manager 1995 - 2003)
From
when Brod went to secondary school and found his classroom next to the
stage of the school hall, the mechanics, magic, and mystery of putting
on a show have fascinated him. On leaving school he embarked on a life
in the theatre, moving to London to join The Bubble Theatre as an Assistant
Electrician and visiting the Queen’s for the first time with the
Bubble Band Show.
Brod began his lighting design
work when he became Technical Manager and Lighting Designer of Extemporary
Dance Theatre (his second visit to the Queen’s), where he lit over
40 new works to wide critical acclaim. His other lighting design credits
have included work for the South Bank Arts Centre/BBC TV, London Sinfonietta,
Vocem Electric Vocal Music Theatre, Union Dance, Shobana Jeyasingh, Academy
of Indian Dance, London City Ballet, the National Opera Studio and Opera
East (his third and forth visits to the Queen’s).
Brod was the Production Manager
at the Queen’s Theatre from 1995 until 2003 before moving on to
work at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This was a role Brod
also performed for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shared Experience, a
European tour for the Almeida Theatre, and many other events, most notably
the launch party for the Citroën Xantia.
His lighting credits at the
Queen’s include Women on the Verge of HRT (also at the
Belgrade Theatre, Coventry), What the Butler Saw, The Glass
Menagerie, Blithe Spirit, April in Paris, and The
Lost World.
