Affairs of the State
by Louis Vernuil
The French have the
good sense to know that a lady can best make herself felt in politics
not by demeaning herself to take part in the vulgar humdrum of public
affairs, but by the discreet and private guidance of her chosen puppet
in the end of a long and invisible piece of string leading to her boudoir.
Affairs of the
State is about American Statesman viewed through the eyes of the
Frenchman… so of course the emphasis is on their home life rather
then their public life; on domestic intrigues rather then party machine,
and what a charming comedy it is.
